That's a great video, man!I'm about to buy my first Taylor after selling my Ovation Custom Legend, and I'm tempted by the 314CE and the new Grand Symphony models, too...My only doubt about the GS is that it could by too bassy for fingerstyle playing...Thanks for the vid anyway ;-)

Thanks for the upload! Very educational! I didn't know the back and sides made such a difference!Hmmm. I like the 314 best. It has a wonderful even sound, I really like that! The 614 definitely has a lot of highs. The 814 sounds a lot like the 314 with more accentuated highs.I have a maple guitar myself which I like a lot.

I bought my 314 about 4 months ago. I decided to take it to the local guitar shop and see how well it performed compared to the others and it totally blew the others out of the room. The $3000 Gibsons, the Martins all had weaknesses to them and projected poorly compared to the 314. Even the higher Taylor models couldn't come close to the tonal harmonies and the wonderful, balanced tone that mine gave out. Go for the 314 all the way and you will not be disappointed.

I didnt hear any difference between the 614 and 814 really. The 314 sounds better to me. I do love the sound of a taylor over gibson or any other acoustic.

The 614 immediately stood out as weaker than the other two. After multiple listenings, I find the 314 and 814 to sound very similar. With the almost 2-1 price difference factored in, the 314 and sapele is the clear winner for me.

We shot that in a small closed room - definitely not the best for the sound but it's one of the few areas we have during the day - sorry about the quality. The guitars weren't plugged but were recorded via mic (which is visible in the shots).

Sounds like an awful lot of reverb on those...not a good idea if you want to hear what they really sound like.

I liked the 814 overall. The indian rosewood really makes a diference. |
