You very quickly judged me as a 'moral relativist'. We should try to be moral because being one hundred percent moral, it seems to me, is an ideal.Also, the way society is set up at the moment is not geared towards re-use. It's geared towards consumerism. We have people greed to thank for that, but also capitalism. Not that I really have a problem with capatalism. It's peoples attitude towards it that need to change. But it won't change over night so, we have to try, untill we get it right.

@Kimoki313 what you are talking about is the externalization of costs. When disposal of a product is socialized (dumped on the public sector), then the free market is manipulated: landfills are a form of socialism and communalism. If there were no landfills, you would have to deal with your own wastes. This would impact your purchasing decisions: so the cost is now privatized: laptop should cost = purchase price + disposal price.and since when do moral relativists say "try and be moral"?

The only reason people are nice to others is becasue it makes themselves feel good. I've got no problem with being selfish when you use that seflishness wisely. When being selfish results in the often fatal contamination of nature and humans alike then you know you've got it wrong.The capitalist free market is THE system of free peoples who don't care that the result is as shameful as any terorist attack.Over population will fuck us up, you're right, but we should try and be moral till then

As a real conservative, I was no fan of Bush. The "neo-conservative" movement came out of the democratic socialist sphere.What's wrong with being selfish? Independent parties, trading goods and services for their own benefit is how value is built. Everything else is just and attempt to manipulate the natural system and cannot be done without one or more parties surrendering their right to property.What if we just recycled the junk cars? Uh oh, the free market already does that.

The very very poorest people, with no electricity, would be burning these for copper. But you don't see containerloads heading to Haiti or Congo. They are going to rapidly developing countries (China, Malaysia, Indonesia) which have capacity to repair and reuse them. That is because people earning about $3k per year are getting online in droves, but cannot afford $500 computers. Techies in the developing countries buy them and fix them. "Prohibition" on exports ignores this.
