Again, Perry and Allen were not on the team in 1970, but this didn't stop Kareem from leading them to 56 wins.
Kareem had some impact, but the Bucks were NOT contenders until Oscar arrived.

I don't doubt that they missed Oscar, but losing 3 of your other top players has to hurt too. I would think that if it was Kareem who left and Oscar stayed, they wouldn't come close to 38 wins that year. There is probably a reason why Oscar thought it was time to hang 'em up that year. I know the big "O" put the team over the top to greatness, but it was Kareem who a year earlier turned a 27 win team to a 56 win team when he joined the Bucks. 29 games! I think u call that.... *impact.*

Also, even before Allen left the team early in the 1974-75 season, the Bucks were already losing WITH him, as they started the season 1-13 and were in the midst of a 10 game losing streak.
In other words, Allen's impact was NOT that profound.
If it was "Kareem's team," then he did a poor job of leading them. Unfortunately, his 30 ppg and 14 rpg could not save them from a 38-44 record. That Bucks team missed Oscar.

Having Oscar made a world of difference, and losing him hurt the team. It's not about stats: it's about *impact.* Under Oscar's leadership, the Bucks made two trips to the finals, and averaged 60 wins per season.
The Bucks had already proven they could win without Perry. When they won the title, Allen was a backup.
When Oscar left the team, nearly everyone (who played with him the previous season) saw a decline in shooting |
